Purpose

  • The goal of this project is to create a large iconic sculpture for the entrance to the 2015 Maker Faire.
  • The sculpture will be an 8' tall 12' wide Digital clock with digits formed in the pattern of a 7 segment display using rotating boxes.

Contributions

  • Below is a list of small projects that individual members can help out with
    • 3D Model and animation to show contributors and supporters what its going to be
    • CNC designs for large gears to be cut out of 3/4“ plywood. Each cube needs a gear ~20” diameter and a pinion ~4“ diameter to drive each cube. Final ration should be between 12:1 and 14:1
    • Build the prototype drive
    • Build the prototype cube
    • Arduino Tiny - program to drive an H bridge and control speed and stopping based on encoder feed back and commands via a serial link
    • Laser cut encoder template to spray paint the encoder on each 20” gear. Three tracks: encoder for speed - about 100 to 256 marks full circle, the other 2 tracks encode the four possible orientations of the faces.
