Helpful Hint
Using a handheld screwdriver in tight spaces can be very frustrating, especially when there isn’t enough room to hold the screw in place with your free hand.
The solution: magnetize a screwdriver. Attach a small magnet to the shaft of your screwdriver. The magnetic magic will travel through the metal of the screwdriver, down to the business end, holding the screw right where you need it—with no hands.
This trick works with other tools, too. Magnetize the head of a hammer to hold a nail, add a magnet to the metal bit in a power drill/driver to hold a screw……you get the idea.
Safety Note
Lifting heavy objects……..some of you are thinking: yeah, yeah, yeah, I know all about that.
A member who was hospitalized due to a significant injury when lifting an object (not at the Space) asked us to make sure folks lift objects correctly.
He is recovering…..but very slowly
Safe lifting involves:
Standing as close to the load as possible
Planting your feet shoulder-width apart with one foot slightly ahead of the other
Bending at the hips and knees only until you're deep in a squatting position
Keeping your head up and straight with your shoulders back to keep your back straight
Holding the load close to your body at waist height
Engaging your core muscles as you push against the ground and straighten your legs
Never twist your torso while lifting. Stay “nose between your toes.”
Never lift a heavy item above shoulder level.
Never carry a load that obstructs your vision.
Never hold your breath while lifting, moving, and setting the load down.
Rule and Regulation of the Week
Space Improvement Days are held the last weekend of the month on alternating Saturday's and Sundays.
If you use the Space, you should participate to make the Space better.
If you want to join as a member, or you are a new member, you should participate as it is a great way to meet members, area champions and board members.
The Space only gets more awesome through active members.
Wrap up
Members, Please hang around and talk to new and prospective members.
