Helpful Hint

  • This week's helpful hint come from MAKE magazine:
    • When dealing with end-grain wood that you’re planning to glue (for example making a picture frame):
      • The exposed grain of the wood can wick up a lot of the glue you apply to join it, weakening the resulting joint. To prevent this, you simply pre-glue the end-grain to be joined and let it dry. That glue will wick into the wood so that the glue you apply on top of that to create the actual joint will stay put and will have more surface area to adhere to.

Topics

    • Most regular events on pause due to COVID spike.
    • Fusion 360 classes continue virtually, Monday's at 7 PM.
    • Board of Director Meeting, this Thursday, February 17th at 7 PM at Lenox in person (socially distanced and masks).

Safety Note

  • Keep hands / hair and clothing away from moving/rotating parts of machinery. Loose Clothing (e.g. ties on a hoodie, loose sleeves, gloves, etc) and long hair, can be caught in the moving parts of a machine (e.g. the chuck of a drill). Hands / clothing should must be kept away, from the moving / rotating parts. Long hair should be tied back.

Rule and Regulation of the Week

  • Do NOT grind aluminum on the grinding wheels in the metal finishing area.
  • Aluminum gums up the wheel which then needs to be redressed…….which is a huge pain in the Area Champions' derrière.
  • Simple way to check metal: if it is magnetic, it is ok to grind on the grinding wheel.
  • Aluminum is NOT magnetic.
  • Know what metal you are working with!
