  • Member Recognition for Awesomeness
  • Membership Sign-ups
  • Guest & New Member Introductions
  • Meeting adjourns

Helpful Hint

  • This week's Helpful Hint is from long time member Wolfgang S:
    • There is a time to sand and a time to scrape
      • Sanding works well in tight places (e.g. corners) and when the surface is thin.
      • Scrapers will give you a smoother surface
    • Sand paper works by scratching the surface, it tears the wood fibers
    • Scrapers work by slice the wood fibers
    • Scrapers cut the surface perfectly flat when the scraper is tuned correctly
    • Scapers work extremely well for removing glue from a joint.
  • Want to learn how to make your own wood scrapers? Wolfgang is happy to teach you. See him at the hand tool area in the wood shop.

Topics

  • Maker Fair scheduled for September 24-26. The MMS level of involvement is TBD. Fair being hosted by MSOE
    • CALL TO MEMBERS: If you would to display a project or sell your wares, please sign up on line. A link will be sent to you in the near future.

Safety Note

  • This safety note is from Mike T (aka Sparky)
    • Wear eye protection in the shop areas and when working on projects. Mike was removing nails from boards for reuse. His safety glasses prevented a serious eye injury as they blocked a flying nail.

Rule and Regulation of the Week

  • From the Shop Rules and Safety section of the member handbook:
    • You must be checked out on every power tool / machine at the Makerspace prior to using it. To be checked out on a machine, see an area trainer, the area champion, or the owner of the machine. One of these members must train you on the equipment before you can use it.
    • There are NO exceptions. Just because you used a lathe, doesn't mean you know how to use a specific lathe at the Space.

Member Topics and Announcements

  • Carl S: FUSION 360 classes are now held at NORWICH (moving from Lenox) at 7 PM. Classes can be attended in person, or virtually (Carl will send you the link). Thank you Carl.
