Line 1: Line 1:
-====== Screen Printing Workshop ======

-You will learn the basics of screen printing and make an awesome t-shirt or paper print. We'll start with artwork in a vector graphics program, cut vinyl using a Silhouette Cameo, apply the vinyl to the screen (and mask off the rest of the screen) and then screen print onto fabric or paper.
-
-//(Note: We will not be using photo-emulsion to burn screens, but we will cover the topic and technique.)//

-
-===== Details =====
-
-**Instructor:** Pete
-
-**Cost:** $25 for members / $30 for non-members
-
-**Materials:** You will be provided with the vinyl, transfer paper, ink, tape, spray glue, and a blank screen. We will be using the Silhouette Cameo and the Screen Printing Machine. (We won't limit you to doing just one print. If you want to do a bunch of shirts, we can probably accommodate that.)
-
-===== Requirements =====
-
-=== Membership ===
-
-You should be a member of the Makerspace to take this class. The class may be offered to non-members, but it'll cost more. ;)
-
-=== Physical Abilities ===
-
-You should be able to use a computer. If you can't, we will assist you. You should also be able to stand up and have full use of your arms to use the screen printing machine. If you can't do that, we'll figure out a workaround.
-
-=== Previous Experience ===
-
-If you've used Inkscape or Illustrator or CorelDraw, it'll come in handy, but if not, we'll walk you through the process of preparing artwork that the Silhouette can handle. (Note that creating new art or extensive file editing may be beyond the scope of this class. If this is the case we'll use a simplified graphic to save time and teach you the basics so you can work on your complex design after the class.) If you've used the laser cutters, you're probably proficient enough.
-
-=== Equipment ===
-
-If you have a laptop feel free to bring it. Install Inkscape if you want to get a feel for it. Otherwise, if you've got Illustrator or CorelDraw, those will work. (Anything that can create a vector file.) You can also create your design right in Silhouette Studio. You can download it for free and get started today. (Mac OS X and Windows only. No Linux version.)
-
-=== Safety Gear ===
-
-Screen printing is a fairly safe activity. You can wear safety glasses if you'd like. You may want to wear clothes you don't mind getting ink on.
-
-
-===== Notes =====
-
-OpenClipArt.org is a great source of vector artwork, all public domain, that you can use in your designs. If you're not skilled at creating vector artwork, just download something from there. :) It may still need a lot of work to function properly, but it's a starting point.
-
-Since we'll be using the vinyl method, the artwork should not be overly complex. (At least not for your first attempt.) This is a beginner class so keeping things fairly simple will help us cover all the basics so you can tackle the complex designs on your own later.
-
