====== Ceramic Shell Dipping Process for Lost Wax Casting

* Folks are required to train from start to finish on the process before working independently. This is to both maintain the usability of the slurry mix and help ensure your casting pours successfully. READING THIS WIKI IS NOT CONSIDERED BEING TRAINED. PLEASE CONTACT RICH IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

  • Steps Starting with a properly gated and vented wax or PLA pattern
  • For every step Power off the tank using the toggle switch. DO NOT TOUCH THE DIAL ON THE TANK CONTROLLER. Execute appropriate step below. Dip pattern in the tank. Hold over tank until slurry flow off of the pattern slows. Then place on the drip grate over the slurry tank. Stipple the air bubbles out with the slurry brush.Set the still wet pattern on an empty bin on the ceramic shell table.Execute appropriate step below. Then cover the tank. Power the tank back up. Place your shell in the drying area. Sift any stucco you used back into the bin from which it came. Put the stucco away. Clean the working area.

  3. Dip. Apply fine stucco.Set aside to dry.
  4. Dry brush prior to dipping. Dip. Apply fine stucco.Set aside to dry.
  5. Dry brush prior to dipping. Dip. Apply medium stucco.Set aside to dry.
  6. Dry brush prior to dipping. Dip. Apply medium stucco.Set aside to dry.
  7. Dry brush prior to dipping. Dip. Apply course stucco.Set aside to dry.
  8. Dry brush prior to dipping. Dip. Apply course stucco.Set aside to dry.
  9. Dry brush prior to dipping. Dip. Apply course stucco.Set aside to dry.(optional depending on pattern dimensions).
  10. Dry brush prior to dipping. Dip. No Stucco applied.Set aside to dry.
  • Note: the shell will turn orange when the piece is ready for its next dipping. Do not rush the process or it will ruin your shell and the slurry. If you see any green the piece is not ready for the next step.
  • Note: never touch the speed dial on the mixer.
  • Note: keep good notes on which step your piece is on. If you do not know, then nobody knows which step you are on
